Linnaeus never had an argument with Siegesbeck, but his revenge for the latter’s defection was rather amusing. Botanists would send each other seeds of rare plants. Once Siegesbeck received a small bag of seeds from Linnaeus labeled with a name unknown to science: Cuculus ingratus (ungrateful cuckold).
Siegesbeck planted the seeds and waited with considerable interest. Imagine his annoyance, then, when he discovered that the shoots were of a plant he knew very well: Siegesbeckia orientalis, which had been named by Linnaeus after Siegesbeck himself some time ago.
